For the past two summers, The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) hosted the Student Leadership Institute (SLI) on the campus of William Peace University in Raleigh.
SLI is a three-day service learning and character building initiative for rising fourth through twelfth grade students from across the state. The institute is designed to prepare students to take active roles in their schools and communities through character building, leadership development and service learning.
Participating students experienced the following:
- Team and character building experiences
- Minds-on learning from experienced trainers in service learning and leadership development
- Hands-on learning at an experiential learning site
- Tools and materials to support service learning, character building and leadership development
Take a look at the video to get a glimpse of this unique three-day experience.
